Old R60-40

Still running a trusty old R60 40 that's been part of the crew longer than some of the staff, but it's starting to act up, a bunch of stuff I could mention, mostly minor though and on top of that, I'm chasing down a slow hydraulic leak, staining the floor and affecting pressure on longer lifts, just how long can one maintain these things before its time to say goodbye?

That R60 40's earned its stripes, but with a slow hydraulic leak and age showing, it might be time to weigh repair costs vs downtime and to be honest. sometimes retirement's the smarter move

At what point does keeping old heavy equipment running cross the line from smart maintenance to just being stubborn, are we preserving value, or clinging to nostalgia at the cost of efficiency?

Sometimes, hanging in there just costs too much. If it's taking up more time and money than it's worth, I think it's time to let go.

R60s are built like tanks and there's a reason they've lasted this long.
A slow hydraulic leak is an old-age problem so I'd first trace that leak and see if it's a cracked hose or just a worn seal on a fitting.
You can still get pretty much any part you need, and a new hose or a seal kit is a heck of a lot cheaper than a new truck!
But I have to agree with @warehouse5oldier.. eventually, you'll hit a point where the cost of repairs starts to outweigh the value so maybe start tracking recurring issues, repairs and costs.

I honestly would agree with @warehouse5oldier here... old R60 40s can run for years with minor issues and some leaks, but its really about whether keeping it patched up is costing more in time and hassle than it's worth. Once the hydraulic problems start affecting lifts or parts get hard to find, thats usually the sign it's time to move on.
